Sue Ellen Stealey was born into a Welsh family in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and truly loved being Welsh! Her dedication to Wales and all things Welsh began early with attendance at many Welsh festivals and events both locally and nationally.
Following retirement she became well known for her participation on the Boards of numerous Welsh organizations including many years as president of the scholarship committee of the Welsh Home in Ohio, as an organizing board member of North American Festival of Wales in Cleveland and Chicago,
and for holding offices in the Waukesha St David’s Society, The Welsh Club of the Milwaukee Area, the Welsh Gymanfa Ganu Association of Wisconsin, the Chicago Gymanfa Ganu Association and the Women’s Welsh Club of Illinois. She was President of the Welsh Cambrian Society of Chicago at the time of her death.
She was an avid genealogist and compiled an extensive Welsh family tree through her research and visits to Wales where she still had living relatives.
