In 2025 the North America Wales Foundation merged with the Welsh North America Association to promote the vision of education and cultural links between Wales and North America. The scholarships and grants program will continue the scope to create awareness of historical and on-going trans-Atlantic links; to develop a network of people on both sides of 'the pond' to support our work; and to award individuals who we feel have, by personal example, furthered Welsh-American relations. The Welsh North American Association is looking to award scholarships to those who:
-are 18 years of age or older
-are permanent residents of the United States or Canada
-hold a GPA or 3.0 or higher (or equivalent)
-support the overall mission of the Welsh North American Association
-seek to study in an accredited Welsh college or university, with a primary focus of on an area of study related to an aspect of Welsh history, culture or language
-seek to study in an accredited university or college in Wales with another area of study other than Welsh studies but see your time in Wales as an opportunity to strengthen ties between the two countries and a chance to engage in "co-curricular" activities, events and travels in a way that enhances or advances their knowledge of and commitment to Wales and the Welsh people.

LLOYD FAMILY TRAVEL SCHOLARSHIP ~ Applications for academic year 2026-27
A grant of up to $1,500 is available to North American students to cover travel expenses relating to study in Wales.
The Lloyd Family Scholarship provides an opportunity for North Americans students to apply for an award of up to $1,500 to cover travel-related expenses in undertaking studies related to Welsh-American history and culture in Wales. The award is designed to support students aspiring to Bachelor, Master and Doctoral degrees or equivalent at recognized academic institutions in Wales. Application must be supported by the host institution. Financial needs must be documented.
The recipient does not have to be of a Welsh ethnic background however, a connection with Wales is an important asset. The award will be made in Summer 2025 based on competition and sufficient merit.
Deadline for application: May 15, 2026

Application must be supported by the host institution. The recipient does not have to be of a Welsh ethnic background however, a connection with Wales is an important asset. INDIVIDUAL/ORGANIZATIONAL GRANT FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE ~
Applications for academic year 2026-27
Approved grants to be issued through a recognized Welsh/Welsh North American Organization and not directly to an individual requestor.
Requestor should provide a recommendation from a recognized Welsh American cultural or academic institution. Application for grant amounts in excess of $1,000 should provide an indication of the total cost of the proposed activity.

The Lloyd Jones Endowment provides awards to two graduate students at Bangor University who have completed projects indicating their promise as young entrepreneurs. Awards of up to $5,000 annually open to students at Bangor University, Wales, who have ambitions as young entrepreneurs.
