Stage Competition for Recitation and Singing  | Visual Arts Competition | Limerick Competition
We encourage you to participate in this time-honored tradition; enter the competition and show off your talents at the North American Festival of Wales Eisteddfod competitions!
Competitions include Singing, Recitation,  Visual Arts, and Limericks, something for all ages and skill levels.  See Guidelines (below) for full information on age, entry and performance requirements.
All winners receive cash prizes and certificates.
We deeply appreciate the devotion and the generosity of the individuals and organizations who finance these awards for the 2026 North American Festival of Wales Eisteddfod.
  • All those competing must be registered for a Festival Pass, or an Eisteddfod only Pass

Stage Competitions

Singing and Recitation entry deadline ~ August 29, 2026
RECITATION COMPETITIONS ~ see guidelines for entry details.
Welsh Language Recitation:   ~ Welsh North American Association, Eisteddfod Committee Award                   
  • Winner: $75.  Second place: $50. Third place: $25. 
  • Set Piece for Welsh Recitation
  • Competitors not fully conversant in the Welsh language may declare as a “Learner” when entering (online or via walk-on).  Adjudicators will then be instructed to take this into account when evaluating performances.

English Language Recitation:   ~ St. David's Society of Minnesota Award               
SINGING COMPETITIONS ~ See guidelines for entry details.
Hymn Singing Competition (Solo):  Rachel Christopher Memorial Award                
~ Sponsored by Huw Christopher.               
  • Winner:  $75 and the opportunity to sing in the Sunday Worship Service.
  • Second place: $50. Third place: $25. 
 
Solo Voice / Semi-Professional:  The Welsh North America Prize  ~ Sponsored in 2026 by Ian K. Samways.
  • Winner: $500, with the possibility of an additional scholarship to travel to compete at the 2027 National Eisteddfod of Wales or 2027 International Eisteddfod in Llangollen. Winner is also invited to sing an appropriate piece in the NAFOW Sunday Worship Service.
  • Runner-up: $250. 
  • Note: This competition is open only to residents of the Americas.

Visual Arts Competition

Welsh Gymanfa Ganu Association of Wisconsin ~  See guidelines for entry details.
Winner: $75, Second place: $50, Third place: $25. 
  • Public adjudication, via secret ballot.
  • Deadline to enter (with title, description and approximate dimensions) is August 29, 2026

Limerick Composition Competition ~ at the Festival!

~ Prizes sponsored by Alan and Greta Upshall.
  • A fun competition open to festival attendees!
  • Guidelines (including "first lines") and entry forms will be available at the Registration table.
  • Submission (in-person) by Saturday, September 5th at 12 Noon.
  • Adjudicators will choose "finalists" for popular voting at the Noson Lawen!
