From the mid 1600' through to the early 20th Century, ornately carved wooden love tokens were often the gift of choice to initiate and cement romantic unions. Learn how lovestruck young Welshmen transformed the simple wooden spoon into a powerful symbol of love and romance, and discover how this traditional craft maintains its relevance to this day. The lovespoon is a much mis-understood Welsh cultural icon, and in this brief lecture, you'll come to realize its history and purpose is much more complex than you may think!
Born in Cardiff, Wales, Dave Western now residing in Victoria, Canada, David Western is one of the world’s foremost lovespoon carvers.
