'Cân o Gymru' - Virtual Competitions for Youth Solo Voice – St. David’s Day Weekend 2023
The Welsh North American Association is excited to partner with Undeb Cymru a'r Byd -Wales International to offer the debut of a youth singing competition; 'Cân o Gymru' or 'Song from Wales'
The winning videos [with parental consent] will be featured on our website as part of St. David's Day celebrations.   See entry instructions below.

Entries will be accepted from February 1 - February 15, 2023.

'Cân O Gymru' ~ Song from Wales
Virtual Competitions for Youth Solo Voice,          
St. David’s Day Weekend 2023
  • Two youth singing competitions, to be held virtually for St. David’s Day Weekend 2023, invite submissions in these categories:
                 Ages 12-16 and Ages 7-11, Welsh
  • Each competition offers 1st-2nd-3rd prizes.
  • (£200 - £100 - £50 for UK entrants, otherwise paid out in the local currency equivalent), jointly sponsored by the Welsh North American Association (WNAA) and Undeb Cymru A’r Byd (Wales International).
  • Each entrant’s age is determined as of March 1, 2023, and there are no geographic restrictions for entering either competition.
  • For both competitions, each entrant will submit a performance video (created in 2023) within the following guidelines:
  • A single song in Welsh of any genre 
  • The song must be no more than three minutes in length.
  • Live music accompaniment is permitted, on a single instrument, by an accompanist or the singer him/herself.  Accompaniment via pre-recorded music is not permitted.
  • Singing without musical accompaniment (a capella) is permitted.
  • Submissions which do not conform the above guidelines will be disqualified.
  • Entrants will submit their performance videos within the dates outlined above; Feb 1-15:
  • The adjudication panel for these competitions will review all entries that arrive within the time frame specified above. Thank you to adjudicators Nia Evans, Elen Keene, and Mary Jones. 
  • select up to 10 entries from each competition for a final round of review; and
  • adjudicate the top three prize winners for each competition.
  • The winning entries will be announced and posted at the North American Festival of Wales (NAFOW) website, www.nafow.org , on March 1, 2023.
  • To enter the competitions, please click on the appropriate one of the “entry form” links at the competition webpage (http://festivalofwales.org/gan-o-gymru---eisteddfod-competition.html).
 
  • The link will lead to an online form where each entrant is asked to do the following:
  • Provide his/her name, age and contact information (including a valid email address).
  • Click “Submit” to receive a confirmation email which includes a Dropbox link, for the category being entered (Ages 12-16 or Ages 7-11).  Then, the entrant will copy/upload his/her video into Dropbox.  A Dropbox submission receipt will then be e-mailed to the entrant automatically.
  • It is the responsibility of the entrant (or someone acting on their behalf) to ensure that the above steps are carried out correctly, and fully within the noted 24-hour window.

  • Cystadlaethau newydd - i’w cynnal yn rhithiol ar gyfer penwythnos Gŵyl Ddewi 2023.  Dau gategori. Gwobrau da!  Gwahoddiad i Gystadlu:
  • Dwy gystadleuaeth ganu newydd sbon!
  • Y gyntaf i ieuenctid 12eg i 16eg oed.
  • A’r ail i blant 7 i 11eg oed.
  • Bydd y ddwy gystadleuaeth yn cynnig gwobrau o £200 - £100 - £50 (i enillwyr o’r Deyrnas Unedig; neu wedi’u trosi yn llefydd eraill).  Bydd hynny yn y ddau gategori.  Noddir y Gystadleuaeth newydd hon ar-y-cyd gan Undeb Cymru a’r Byd (Wales International) a Gŵyl Cymru Gogledd America.
